Support for Claiming Tax Credits for
Small to Mid-Sized Businesses
The biggest hiring credits are won or lost in the first weeks after a hire, not at tax time. We make sure every new hire is screened, every form goes out on time, and every credit you qualify for is protected.
Screening Built In
Credit screening happens right inside onboarding, so every new hire is checked the moment they join.
Credits Applied Through Payroll
The credits we find flow through your payroll and tax filings. No exporting, no separate vendor, no extra forms landing on your desk.
Hiring Credits Handled
Work Opportunity Tax Credits, veteran incentives, and target-group credits identified, documented, and protected.
Money Found in Past Years
We review prior tax years for credits your business missed and may still be able to claim. Found savings can come back as refunds, not just future reductions.
Real People. Real Answers.

Frequently Asked Questions
-
What tax credits could my business actually qualify for?
More than most owners expect. Common ones include the Work Opportunity Tax Credit for hiring from certain groups, the FICA tip credit for restaurants and other tipped businesses, research and development credits, and a range of state hiring and training credits. Which ones apply depends on who you hire, what you pay, and where you operate, so the first step is a review of your payroll and hiring to see what you may qualify for.
-
Is the Work Opportunity Tax Credit (WOTC) still available?
The federal authorization for WOTC expired on December 31, 2025, so the credit is paused for 2026 hires unless and until Congress reauthorizes it. The important part for you is to keep screening new hires and filing the paperwork anyway. WOTC has lapsed and been renewed retroactively before, and states are still accepting and retaining applications for 2026 start dates pending reauthorization. We keep your screening running through the gap, so if the credit returns, your hires are already documented and the savings are not lost.
-
What do I have to do differently when I hire someone?
Almost nothing, because the screening lives inside onboarding. The catch with hiring credits like WOTC is timing: the certification request, IRS Form 8850, generally has to reach the state workforce agency within 28 days of the employee's start date. Miss that window and the credit is gone, even if the employee qualified. We build screening into your hiring flow and track the deadline, so the form goes out on time without anyone having to remember it.
-
I run a restaurant. What is the FICA tip credit and how much is it worth?
If your employees earn tips, you already pay the employer share of Social Security and Medicare tax on those tips, and the FICA tip credit lets eligible employers claim a federal income tax credit for the employer share of FICA paid on tips above the minimum wage threshold. As of the 2025 tax year, the credit also extends to some beauty and personal care businesses for the first time. We make sure your tip data is captured correctly so the credit is calculated right and nothing is left behind.
-
Can RPM find credits I missed in past years?
Sometimes, yes. Credits like the FICA tip credit can be claimed for prior years by filing an amended return, so if you have been paying FICA on tips without claiming it, there may be money to recover. We review your past payroll and filings, flag what was missed, and prepare the documentation for your accountant to amend. Credits tied to a hiring deadline, like WOTC, usually cannot be recovered once the 28-day window has passed, which is why screening going forward matters.
-
Will claiming these credits create more work for me or my team?
No. Screening is built into onboarding, your dedicated expert handles the forms and the deadlines, and the credits are documented and passed along for filing. You approve, and we handle the rest. Working with us means capturing the savings without adding a project to your plate.
-
Will RPM work with my accountant or CPA?
Yes, and most clients keep their accountant. Several of these credits are claimed on your business income tax return, which your CPA files, so we identify and document the credits, calculate the amounts, and hand your accountant exactly what they need. You get the savings without your payroll provider and your accountant working from different pages.
